A lot lately I’ve been noticing some increasing problems with the design industry. Mostly I would like to address the issues I’m seeing with clients (or potential clients) not wanting to sign on to projects in the standard/professional way, they are asking for work before pay and only paying if the work is satisfactory out of fear of risk.
I can’t blame them for all the flaky “professionals” that are running wild on craigslist have ruined it for the rest of us. But, us real professionals need to stick strong to our standards and not allow being taken advantage of.
I don’t want to leave clients in the dark, and understandably they may be confused by certain things or may not understand what is and isn’t an appropriate professional standard, so I’m trying to educate. I’ve written a;
Statement of My Values: My Heart. My Values.
and
An Article: Working with Professionals/Clients
To try and help inform the situation and hopefully put some fears to rest and get things going smoothly again.
To be quite clear, I’m not talking about clients/start-ups who don’t have budgets, I have previously addressed this subject however. (http://sfbay.craigslist.org/forums/?ID=131418651)
I would love to get some opinions/input on this.
Thanks, Bryan
